Sea Tow
Captains
Captain Bill Barker is the President and Owner of the Sea Tow Eastern Long Island
franchise and also the President of Coastal Assistance and Towing.
As a native of the eastern Long Island area and a skilled mechanic and
shipwright Bill
became one of Capt. Joseph Frohnhoefer's (former owner of Sea Tow
Eastern Long Island and the founder of Sea Tow International) first
employees and is now the sole owner. Bill's comprehensive
experience includes a 100 Ton License as a Master Near Coastal Route
with the Commercial Assistance Towing endorsement, a
certified oil spill hazwopper technician and is the salvage master.
Captain Kris Dimon joined Sea Tow Eastern in 1998. His strong background as a
marine engine mechanic, welder and shipwright makes him a natural as our full time
chief mechanic and fleet maintenance technician as well as our chief
duty captain at our headquarters in Southold, NY. Captain Kris
holds a 50 ton License as a Master Near Coastal Route with the Commercial Assistance
Towing endorsement. As a certified
diver Kris is involved in most of the salvages and recoveries in our
area of operations. Kris is a native of the eastern Long Island
area.
Captain Brian Becker joined Sea Tow Eastern in 1997. Brian is a full time
physical education teacher which means when school is not in session
Brian can be found working out of Southold and Mattituck as a primary
captain. Captain Brian holds the O.U.P.V. Coast Guard license with
the Commercial Assistance Towing endorsement. His skill as a teacher is carried over and put to work as
our training officer. He can also be found manning our
dispatch center when an extra hand is needed or working at his third
career in shell fish aquaculture.
Captain
Scott Brautigam brings a wealth of professional captain's experience to
Sea Tow Eastern Long Island. Since joining us in 2003, he has
proven himself as a skilled captain and watch-stander. Captain
Scott
holds a 100 ton License as a Master Near
Coastal Route
with the Commercial Assistance Towing endorsement. As a
certified diver and experienced delivery captain up and down the coast
his local knowledge means he is often consulted by the other captains
before they venture into a poorly marked harbor or inlet.
Captain Jim Smith joined Sea Tow Eastern
in 2001. He knows the area like the back of his hand and is a
welcome addition to our roster of duty captains. Captain Jim holds
a 25 ton License as a Master Near Coastal Route with the Commercial Assistance Towing
endorsement. Jim is also a skilled
radio technician and can be found holding down the parts department of a
major automobile dealership when he isn't pulling duty as a Sea Tow
captain working out of Southold and Mattituck.
Captain Pete Laz joined Sea Tow Eastern in 2005. His background on
the water includes captaining his own charter boat as well as a
professional delivery captain on the East Coast between Maine and
Florida. Capt. Pete holds the USCG O.U.P.V Near Coastal License
with the Commercial Assistance Towing endorsement. Before his Sea Tow career Capt. Pete was a teacher of
Marine Science. If you see Capt. Pete you will remember it because
if you are on the water and are passed by a yellow boat, or on the
highway and are passed by a gold colored V-Twin bike it is probably
Capt. Pete.
Captain Jon Edwards joined Sea Tow Eastern in 2000 and was
the 24/7 captain in charge of our Montauk
Point station from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. (He spends the
other half of the year as a captain and diver at
Sea Tow Central
Chesapeake in Annapolis, MD). Beginning in the 2007 season, Capt.
Jon transferred to the newly formed Sea Tow Montauk franchise as their
senior captain and will remain on our call list as a standby Captain.
