These photos often depict situations that do not fall within the routine marine assistance definition.  Mariners who experience mishaps that are not covered by towing insurance should make loss claims under their separate hull insurance policy.

Insurance?

Remember, before you get underway you will want two kinds of insurance:

Hull Insurance coverage

Sea Tow coverage

Your hull insurance policy should cover you for loss, damage, liability, oil spills etc.  This is the equivalent of your basic automobile policy.

Your Sea Tow coverage is for towing, soft ungrounding, restarting etc.  This is the equivalent of AAA auto insurance.

Do you rely on a provision in your hull insurance policy to cover you for towing?

If so, be aware that many boaters get big surprises at renewal time if they make a towing claim against their hull policy.  Awaiting reimbursement, getting hit with a deductible or a denial for a towing claim or being slapped with a premium increase or even being dropped by your insurance company are all good reasons not to mix apples and oranges.
